The U.S. currently has 995 compressed natural gas (CNG) stations -- 586 public access and 409 private, according to the Dept. of Energy’s Alternative Fuels Data Center. Pennsylvania has 54 operating CNG stations -- 29 public access, 25 private. Seven additional CNG fueling stations are scheduled to open in the near future. In March, PennDOT selected Chicago- based Trillium CNG, which was recently acquired by Love’s Travel Stops, for the department’s $84.5-million CNG transit fueling station Public-Private Partnership (P3) project.
